Getting here:
The most popular vantage point for the Half Dome is probably around the Yosemite Valley Visitor Center. The visitor center is located deep inside the valley, estimated to be halfway between the northern and southern entrance. (The Half Dome can also be hiked on various trails, but since I have not done it, please check other guides for more information).

Description:
None of the other rock formations could match the fame and inspiration brought upon by the Half Dome. This dome, which goes absolutely vertical for nearly 2,000-ft from its summit, is the ultimate landmark of this national park. From the valley floor, the Half Dome rises some 5,000-ft, but only the last portion of it that is absolutely vertical which no human's engineering feat could ever emulate.

In short, the Half Dome is a constant reminder of the natural forces bigger than we are. The last great glacier movement had taken out what was originally a perfectly dome-shaped rock structure. What beguiled me the most was how the half-portion was scrapped off by the glacier, leaving behind a perfectly smooth wall surface of 2,000-ft high!

Further description of the Half Dome may dwell on the constant reference to the superlatives. I strongly suggest visitors to witness this majestic rock formation through their own eyes.
