Getting here: The beach is located on the Park Loop Road. From Hulls Cove entrance, the distance is estimated to be about 10 miles or 20 minutes drive. Ample signs are provided along the way. There is a big parking lot where you can park your car and walk to the beach.
Description: Sand Beach is probably one of the best kept secrets in Acadia National Park. Notwithstanding the extremely cold sea water, one could easily mistaken this beach to those in Hawaii (seriously, it is that beautiful!).
While most of the shorelines in Acadia are rocky, Sand Beach takes the exception. The sand is powdery soft and the water is extremely clean. While I was tempted to take a dip, a precautionary fact that I read about the water being only 55F even during the peak of summer put my wishful thinking to a halt.
The beach is about a quarter of a mile long. You can walk along the shore to one end, where the Great Head Trail begins, and return while basking in the hot summer sun (and probably wondering why the ocean couldn't get warm enough despite the scorching heat).
Overall, Sand Beach is a must-go for anyone visiting Acadia National Park.
